The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Dry Dog Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet's life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney's role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your dog's kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.
Key Benefits- Protects vital kidney and heart function and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
- Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T.) technology helps increase the appetite and food intake.
- Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
- Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

My dog was not a fan
By Great on Nov 9, 2021
My 3 year old Boston Terrier was forced to go on a renal diet for some kidney related issues so my vet recommended Hills K/D. I could not get him to eat the kibble or 2 different types of the canned. He turned his nose up to it and walked away from the bowl every time I tried to feed it to him. He is normally a good eating but hated this food.

Very expensive
By Shabre on Nov 16, 2021
Good dog food for our dog with kidney disease. However, we paid twice the amount than our vet charges, the only reason we purchased on Chewys is our vet was out of stock at the time. Good packaging and qucik delivery are the positive points I'd give chewys.

Dogs won't eat it
By Prescriptions on Nov 11, 2021
Unfortunately, after trying for three days to get both of the dogs to eat, neither dog would go anywhere near this food. Canned or kibble does not make a difference. I will be donating it back to the veterinary office that recommended it to me.

Good results with this product
By Cherie on Sep 29, 2021
My animal Brutus has been on this for years and he has not had any additional issues with his health. The easy auto ship and the ability to change the ship date is wonderful. Prior to using Chewy I had to order from my vet and take the time to go pick it up. Chewy have never let me down. Excellent customer service. Keep up the good work. I highly recommend.

Recently had to switch to a k/d diet for my aging dog. He really likes the K/D Chicken. I'm thankful to find one he will eat (sometimes a picky boy)! I appreciate the quick, reliable delivery, too.
